About the Farish Street Festival
Mission Statement
The mission of the Farish Street Historic Festival is to celebrate African/African American cultureand history while increasing the awareness of The Historic Farish Street District.
Goal
Develop and present ongoing arts and cultural programming in the “Historic Farish Street District”Objectives
- Gather, record and dissimilate the history of the Farish Street District;
- To encourage public interest, educate and promote understanding in the cultural heritage of Mississippi’s African Americans (emphasis on Farish Street);
- To promote tourism and economic development in the district using
African/African American arts as a catalyst; - To develop the annual Farish Street Historic Festival as a nationally recognized African American cultural event.
